This bill was the biggest handout to corporations. As far as conservatives wanting to return to slaverly, if you must depend on government for healthcare, how free are you? Perhaps you should read history. It wasn't the "old conservatives" responsible for slavery or institutionalized racism. Instead, it was the liberal Democrats. (Pardon me but these aren't in chronological order - I'm just shooting from the hip here.) The Democrat Party included slavery as an actual party platform before the Civil War. Governor George Wallace was a Democrat. FDR appointed KKK member Hugo Black as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Woodrow Wilson was a rampant racist. Planned Parenthood founder and present-day liberal icon Margaret Sanger supported eugenics as an effort to keep inferiors from breeding and included minorities in her views of who shouldn't be allowed to reproduce - she gave a speech to the KKK explaining her views on the subject. A larger percentage of Republicans voted in favor of the Civil Rights Act than Democrats - the Southern Democrats were the voting bloc in Congress in favor of segregation. The late Senator Robert Byrd was the last KKK member to hold office - he was a Democrat if you don't recall and he held office until he died earlier this year. Republicans and conservatives want better education for everyone but Democrats refuse to give the poor options besides failing public schools through school vouchers, instead they damn them to failing schools. President Obama shut down a successful voucher program in DC in his first few months in office. The program allowed inner city minorities to attend the same private school he sends his daughters to.
